Abstract
Nicotine or nicotin, named from Jean Nioot who introduced the tobacco plant into France in 1565 is the characteristic alkoloid of the tobacco plant, Nicotiana tobacum, in all parts of which it occurs to the extent of from six tenths of one per cent, to four and eight tenths per cent.
