Abstract

In this brief paper I have made no attempt to completely cover the field of splenic investigation. In deed, some of the supposedly important functions of the spleen I have but mentioned, while to some of the doubtful and less important I have devoted whole chapters. This paper is to be considered complementary to work done in other phases of the spleen's activity by Mr. C. Fox and Mr. M. Gilbert here at Marquette in 1931. Their papers considered the spleen as to its comparative anatomy in the vertebrates, and its reservoir function and haemopoietic activity.
