Abstract

In this thesis it is my purpose to set forth the critical opinions of Dr. Johnson on the works of Alexander Pope. To accomplish this purpose I shall first treat the lives and outside influences on the writings of these two men and then take up other factors which would affect either Pope as a poet or Johnson as a critic. I shall then present the critical opinions of Dr. Johnson both on Pope as a poet and upon some of his more important literary efforts.
