Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to present a history, of journalism in Green Bay. The press in Green Bay affords an interesting topic for investigation, since the newspaper growth there is somewhat aligned with the advancement of the Northwest's first city. Herein is found a history that dates back to a period when newspapers west of the Alleghenies were struggling to solve the many problems that militated against the success of printing and its offshoot -- the newspaper.
Journalism has had an interesting battle in Green Bay, beset by the countless obstacles surrounding an inland settlement, removed from the world's news supply, then concentrated along the Atlantic seaboard.
Back in 1833, on December 11, a wheezing old printing press, operated by The Green Bay Intelligencer, ground out the city's first venture in the Journalistic field. Green Bay is not characterized by a trend in its Journalism that distinguishes it from other cities in the United States, yet it typifies the expansion of the American newspaper, together with the diverse practices employed in the task of communicating the news.
