Abstract
Turner was born on November 14, 1861, at Portage, Wisconsin. He was born in that section of the country which in his works he interpreted as having produced the real foundation for the development of American life. No outstanding events occurred in the early life of Frederick Turner, or at least no record has been made of them. One may assume his life was very similar to that of any normal, happy individual. It can be said that the eventful later years of his life overshadowed those earlier days. For beginning with the year 1884, Turner's life proceeds through progressing and successful paths. That year marked his graduation from the University of Wisconsin, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree. His classmates were able to foresee even then what students, friends, and contemporaries were to realize in the future.
