Abstract
This thesis has been prepared in an attempt to analyze the fundamental factors involved in Silent Reading. The factors presented are those selected by specialists in education.
There are four essential habits in Reading that determine the form which primary training should assume. Accordingly this thesis is divided into chapters devoted to a consideration of the character, place, and function of Comprehension, Speed, Retention and Organization in Reading.
The method employed in writing this thesis has been to secure opinions, findings and criticisms of specialists and to utilize their judgments. The material has been supplied through books, magazines, and pamphlets secured at the Milwaukee Public Library, the Marquette University Library and secured through the facilities of the Milwaukee Public School System.
