Abstract

The historical novel which may be found among the literary works of almost every land was an offshoot of that cosmopolitan wave coming in the middle of the eighteenth century, known as Romanticism. In the main this new trend emphasized the supremacy of the emotions over the intellect, ·a naturalness foreign to the prevailing classic literature.
