Abstract
It is the purpose of this paper to compare the poetry of the romantic movement in England and in France. First it will present the characteristics of the leading poets in each of these countries. Then these traits will be compared to determine in what respects they were similar and what respects they differed. Lastly, there will be a discussion of the concepts of romanticism held by the leading poet is each nation, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Byron, Keats and Shelley in England, and Lamartine, Vigny, and Hugo in France are the romanticists to be considered.
