Abstract
1,1-Diiodo-3,4-benzocyclopentatellurane, C8H8TeI2, was reacted with a series of neutral thioureas, selenoureas, and thiones (L) in tetrahydrofuran in the presence of silver tetrafluoroborate to give dicationic complexes of the type [C8H8Te(L)2][BF4]2. These have been characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and a representative single crystal X-ray structure for the complex with L = tetramethylthiourea. The structure and bonding are discussed and compared with related coordinated cyclopentatelluranes.
