Abstract
The organolithium derivatives of N,N-dimethylbenzylamine (I), o-methylbenzyldimethylamine (II), and o-trimethylsilylbenzyldimethylamine (VII) have been prepared and isolated. Infrared and NMR spectra indicate that lithiation occurs at the orthoposition. The molecular weight of all three compounds in DMSO is concentration dependent. The IR, NMR, and UV spectra have all been obtained and interpreted in terms of both intramolecular and intermolecular lithium-nitrogen interactions.
