Abstract
A comparison of the far and near IR and 13C-NMR spectra show that the acetyacetonate(acac) rings undergo rapid sterochemical rearrangements and that the methyl carbons and the carbonyl carbons of each complex have a different coalesence temperature (Tc). The exchange rate, kc, and activation free energy, ΔG‡, for the exchange process is calculated. The assignment of the bands in the IR spectra in these complexes can be used as a support for these configurational changes.
