Abstract
The study, according to the report, ’’arose out of the conviction of the officers of the Catholic Press Association that ’editors, circulation and promotion directors must understand the thinking, feelings, fears and ideals of their audience and potential audience before meaningful communication and growth in circulation can take place. The view of the CPA, according to the Gallup report, is that "the Catholic press can provide understanding and explain religious values. It can bridge the gap between generations. It can cushion and clarify change. But to communicate effectively, it must understand its audience."
