Abstract

Dr. Carey shared the varied Catholic reactions to socialism between 1895-1920. During the lecture’s question and answer session, the discussion turned to Milwaukee’s socialist past and the relationship between socialism and communism. ABOUT THE SERIES Carey’s talk was part of the Annual Kelly Chair Lecture, sponsored by the Helen Way Klingler College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Theology. ABOUT THE SPEAKER Dr. Carey is the William J. Kelly, S.J., Chair in Catholic Theology at Marquette. His research areas include the history of Christian theology, American Catholic life and thought, and Christian life and thought in the United States.
