Abstract

The dissertation chronicles the life of Joseph Patrick Hurley (1894-1967) and gives an account of his career as a diplomat for the Vatican and his life as the sixth bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of St. Augustine in Florida. Hurley served at diplomatic posts in India, Japan, and at the Vatican City. He served as a Papal diplomat in Yugoslavia from 1945 to 1950.
