Abstract
The study of the thyroid gland has reached the point where the available information is so vast and diversified that it is difficult to interpret. The method of approach presented in this study aims at a coordination of some of the basic scientific studies devoted to the thyroid gland. The effect of thyroid removal on whole animal oxygen consumption, carefully related to the time following thyroidectomy, has been used as a basis for comparing changes in tissue oxygen consumption and succinic dehydrogenase activity.
