Abstract

The purpose of this research study was to investigate the influencing factors in choosing counseling as a career in recovery from chemical dependence. There were three components linked to the purpose of this study. They included: 1) contributing as a counseling professional to the development of a body of research knowledge on impairment in the counseling profession; 2) comparing the theoretical constructs of a contemporary vocational development theory (Super, 1953) to the career development processes of a special population of subjects--AODA recovering counselors; and, 3) determining the implications/modifications, if any, necessary for future AODA counselor education, preparation, certification, and censure...
