Abstract
There is a great deal of uncertainty as to the precise details of Hilary life. What follows in this preface is a summary of what we can ascertain with some degree of reliability, along with reasonable speculations based on hints found both in Hilary's own writings and other ancient sources. Hilary's ancient biographer is largely unreliable, oftentimes contradicting evidence from Hilary's own pen, but it is possible to gain a sense of the basic outline of his career.
