Abstract
This dissertation examines a new theoretical model that uses Tomkins' (1963; 1987) persona) ideology construct and its underlying dimensions of humanism and normativism to connect aspects of religiosity, religious coping, and well-being. The unified model delineates how peoples' personal philosophies of life, that is their ideology, influences their involvement with religion, how their involvement with religion helps them cope with negative life events, and how their religiosity and religious coping relates to their well-being.
