Abstract
The doctrine of justification has not played a major role in post-tridentine Catholic theology. As one author observes, "left to their own devices, Roman Catholics do not talk much about justification." If this is true, then during the past several decades Catholics must not have been "left to their own devices," for they have given much attention to the doctrine of justification, especially in ecumenical dialogue with Lutherans and Anglicans. One result of this is that the so-called theology of controversy is now an issue on which these parties claim a considerable degree of convergence. This is a most welcome development...
