Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine if the tests used to select police candidates in Cincinnati, Ohio, are predictive of 1) score in the police academy, and 2) on-the-job performance as a police officer. The predictor variables were the scores on the Army General Classification Test (AGCT), the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (NHPI), first oral interview and interview with psychological team. The predicted variables were score in police academy class, ratio of commendations/years, superiors' ratings, ratio of disciplinary actions/years and peer evaluation scores.
