Abstract
This dissertation investigated transition from high school to university in Kenya from the students' perspective. The research examined three major areas that influence transition with specific reference to the challenges that students encountered in the process: I) Support Networks 2) Continuity in Curricula-Pedagogy and Content 3) Gaps and Mismatches. Transition from high school to postsecondary education comes at a time when most students also make important transitions into adulthood (Hossler, Schmit & Vesper, 1999; Nelson, 2003; Arnett, 2004). Since the transition process involves negotiating new academic and personal challenges (Rickinson, 1998), it requires that the students make social and cognitive adjustments (HarkIau, 200I; Arthur & Hayward, 1997). This research established some causes and possible remedies of academic, and non-academic challenges that students encountered in the transition process and revealed ways in which students negotiated these challenges.
