Abstract
Problem. In order to develop a procedure to evaluate academic gains over two years for Lakeland College students and to assess the efficacy of using the Survey of College Achievement as a predictor of attrition as well as a criterion for measuring gain , a study was conducted on 89 incoming freshmen students who were pre-tested in 1969 and post tested with an equivalent form of the test in the spring of 1971. These students were enrolled primarily in General Education courses in this small private liberal arts college in Wisconsin. Results 1. It was found that Lakeland College students made statistically significant gains over two years on the Survey of College Achievement in four of five liberal arts areas: English, Natural Science, Mathematics, and Social Science - History.
