Abstract
The importance of the early childhood period in human development is increasingly being recognized. How parents and other caregivers interact with their children, during these early years, will significantly effect the children's future. An assessment of how parents interact with their children, during these early years, would assist in developing parenting programs. Although research in this area has been conducted with Anglo and African-American families, little research has been completed with the largest growing minority Population: Hispanics. The research conducted in this dissertation provides a beginning database for cross-cultural comparison of Hispanic and non-Hispanic Anglo parents. It is intended to contribute to the literature regarding the influence of culture on parenting practices.
