Abstract
For the first time, the Hg-Cd-Zn-Te quaternary phase diagram is investigated theoretically and thermodynamically by considering an associated solution model for the liquid phase and a quasiregular model for the solid phase. The entire system will be represented by a single set of parameters which is determined by a thermodynamically self-consistent, quantitatively satisfactory, and simultaneous fit to all the phase diagrams and thermodynamic data. The objective of this investigation is to establish a reliable means of smoothing and evaluating the experimental data and provide useful thermodynamic information on pressure-temperature-composition relations for guiding further experiments.
