Abstract
The purpose of this research was to undertake the initial steps in the investigation of the structure and action of bovine pepsinogen. A new method was developed for the isolation of pepsinogens in highly purified form from gastric mucosa, and bovine pepsinogen was isolated for the first time. Its amino acid composition, molecular weight and other properties were studied. The active pepsin prepared from this pepsinogen was modified and treated with cyanogen bromide to prepare fragments for the studies on the primary structure of this protein.
