Abstract
In recent years complex natural products produced by microorganisms have given a great challenge to the synthetic organic chemist. Soraphen A1a is the parent compound of a family of macrolides discovered by the research group of Reichenbach and Hofle. Soraphen A1a was found to be a highly potent antifungal antibiotic against a variety of phytopathogenic fungi. The use of tricarbonyl iron complexes had been recognized as powerful stereo directing tool in organic synthesis.
