Abstract

In my study of the political philosophy of John Locke, I found that one of Locke's notions, the purpose of the political order, rendered intelligible the organization, structure, and activities of political society, Locke precisely defined the purpose of the political order in the basic notion of security and applied it to three major areas of human concern: life, liberty, and property. This study is a statement of Locke's concept of the political good and its application to the citizens and rulers in political society It is based on Locke's Two Treatises of Government with supplementary material from the Letters of Toleration and the Essay on Toleration.
