Abstract
This work is an investigation of glycogen metabolism in the fungus imperfectus Cryptococcus laurentii. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the biosynthetic mechanisms responsible for glycogen biosynthesis and degradation in this organism. the data are discussed in terms of possible regulatory mechanisms that control these processes. Some of these results have been published previously (Schultz and Ankel, 1970). The phenomenon of starch production in Cryptococcus laurentii was also studied with the specific aim of establishing the relationship of starch excretion to glycogen metabolism.
