Abstract
In recent years a wealth of experimental evidence has substantiated the role of the reticulo-endothelial system (RES in the specific body defense mechanisms against pathogenic invaders. In addition, the possibility that the RES is also involved in the bodily response to stress and in the pathogenesis of shock has stimulated an active area of contemporary research. The studies reported in this dissertation represent and effort to further the understanding of the role of the RES in resistance to traumatic shock.
