Abstract
The purpose of this dissertation was to improve the care of acute myocardial infarction patients in a computer-aided patient care system, A LINC-8 computer was used for on-line calculation of pressures, heart rate and cardiac output ( obtained by the pulse contour method), The acute myocardial infarction patient was studied from the onset of the infarction until either improvement and transfer from the coronary care unit, or expiration in the coronary care unit, Both on-line and off-line data were evaluated.to determine time-domain and frequency-domain characteristics of ten coronary care unit patients; this required the development of analytical techniques and· computer programs to do the following: 1) Retrieve hemodynamic data stored on magnetic tape, 2) Smooth hemodynamic signals, J) Calculate the first derivatives of the hemodynamic signals. 4) Calculate the autocorrelation and power spectral density functions derived from the hemodynamic signals.) Graphically display the original signals, smoothed signals, first derivatives of the signals, autocorrelation functions and power spectral density - functions...
