Abstract

The gifted and talented are exceptional individuals who have learning needs beyond those experiences typically offered in the general education program. If they are to reach their full potential, both for personal fulfillment and for the subsequent benefit to society, gifted students need appropriate learning experiences. Our underutilize the increasingly complex society cannot afford to ability and talent which these people can offer. While academic enrichment programs are being implemented for the gifted, programs for career evaluation have been more haltingly accepted. Some of the reasons for this marginal acceptance are discussed in this paper, as well as the development of a career evaluation program that would adequately meet the needs of gifted and talented students.
