Abstract
The primary purpose of this study was to learn how Catholic elementary school administrators are informally socialized into administration and what that means for the role of administrative staff development personnel in two areas. One area relates to implications for strengthening the level of preparation of principals of Catholic elementary schools and of aspirants to that role. The other area relates to implications for assuring the continuation of socializing processes for Catholic elementary school principals already in that role. In both areas, the focus was on administrative staff development implications for socializing the principal as someone who is well-prepared for the role of curriculum and instructional leader and who is viewed as a major force in implementing educational change through collaboration and other sound leadership practices.
