Abstract
This multiple-case study investigated Wisconsin public school superintendents' knowledge of, preparation for and perceptions of site-based management (SBM). Information was gathered through surveys, comprehensive case study interviews and documents supplied by respondents. Wisconsin's state legislators have mandated that public schools begin investigating the implementation of site-based management at all school sites. The final decision to fully implement SBM will be made this year. An examination of Wisconsin superintendents' perceptions of SBM may lead to a better understanding of and a more informed decision about whether to implement SBM in all public schools in Wisconsin. This information may positively impact on improved student learning by improving the methods in which decisions are reached about management of all public school districts in Wisconsin.
