Abstract

In areas from Little League baseball to coal mining, women in 1974 consolidated their previous gains and broke new barriers. They ran for office, pushed for the Equal Rights Amendment, were heard in court, fought for equal pay, sought professional training, refuted myths, confronted the church, joined the Army, became presidents of companies and countries, won championships, and much more. Recent trends indicate that women may now be able to achieve higher vocational and professional opportunities in some fields. National statistics showed more women entered higher education programs this year. Women returned to school from every segment of society.
