Abstract
Teacher education is still acquiring a knowledge base which will give direction to teacher recruiting, training and selection. David Berliner compared it to the field of medicine during the Civil War. Even though education is a complex field with many diverse human variables, many in education continue to believe that, with continued research, we will know much more about educating and preparing teachers for the workplace in the twenty-first century. The Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator is a useful tool for understanding oneself and others. It can help teachers understand themselves and each other better, while providing insight into what makes a teacher successful. School based management is very popular in large urban districts such as Milwaukee and Chicago. The effective schools model has been used to improve schools in the same areas. If these endeavors make schools and the teachers in them unique, then much more research is needed to identify what variables, particularly teacher variables, contribute to school success. By identifying effective and less effective school based management schools and using the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Inventory with groups of teachers, personality likenesses and differences in the groups might be discovered, adding to the knowledge base of teacher education.
