Abstract
When there is available a biologically active molecule which lends itself to systematic chemical modifications and when there is available, furthermore, a biological test system on feels compelled to carry out an investigation as is submitted in the following pages. The present day rational approach to the design of biologically active molecules is the stepwise alteration of an active parent compound with a view to ferreting out the physico-chemical mechanisms which are operative. Drug design, still in an inductive stage leans heavily for its advancements upon this approach in the absence of a unified basis for drug design.
