Abstract
Several methods of ring expansions are reported in the literature. Ring expansion by the diazoalkane and Tiffeneau Demjanov method are two of the more important methods. These ring expansion methods have been investigated from several points of view such as the effect of temperature, solvent, catalyst, in-situ vs ex-situ introduction of diazoalkanes, electronic as well as steric effects on the migratory aptitudes of competing carbons. But no inter-comparison between the two methods has been made in the norbornyl system.
