Abstract
This presentation was a Civic Literacy assignment for an English 1002 class. In this video, Payne Elliott uses dramatic interpretation to illustrate flaws in the United States prison/judicial system, specifically targeting it's use of solitary confinement. Payne says, "when talking about uncomfortable social justice issues, there is a fine line between comfortable and uncomfortable rhetoric. When writing to my audience I've learned that straddling my readers comforts can make for a very creative and effective piece of work." By characterizing himself as a solitary confinement inmate, Payne Elliott stresses that solitary confinement has no place in the American judicial system.
