Abstract
It remains a fact that the presidential campaign of 1928 brought about a glaring revelation of the depth and the extent of religious bigotry in the United States . It was impossible for any voter, yet alone the presidential candidates, to avoid the anti-Catholic outbreak . One would find it difficult to question the sincerity of the Republican presidential candidate , Herbert Clark Hoover , and his statements in support of religious toleration.
