Abstract
Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales is a digest of life displayed within the fictive frame of a pilgrimage. Because of its form the tales encompass a great number of tonics and themes. One of the major tonics discussed in the work is the problem of truth and truth-telling. The "manciple theme" in the Canterbury Tales functions as a statement on truth, truth-telling and tale-telling.
