Abstract
This paper was a study of certain factors among junior and senior students and a comparison of results between achievers and underachievers in these grade groups. Some students achieve and some students fail in school. The perennial question is why? Intelligence plays a major role in achievement or failure but the study of intelligence does not satisfactorily answer all the questions. Specific studies of underachievers will mention as results for failure various nebulous terms such as emotional maladjustment, lack of interest, or lack of motivation. It is not too practical to apply such general descriptions to particular cases. More must be known. Since the causes of underachievement are not well defined the teacher at times hazards a guess why this or that student failed and what should be done to make this student an achiever. The diagnosis and prognosis may be right or wrong.
