Abstract

Domestic wastewater treatment has been practiced in the United States for many years. Most of the population centers in this country are presently served by primary and secondary treatment facilities in which the latter stage of treatment is generally a biological operation. Biological secondary treatment methods such as the stabilization lagoon, trickIing filter or the presently popular activated sludge processes have permitted up to ninety percent removals of five day BOD and suspended sol ids from plant influent flows to become routine.
