Abstract
During the first week in June of 1973 over 2,000 people gathered at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana to pray, praise God and give witness to the Holy Spirit renewing the Catholic Church. This was a gathering of people who identify themselves as Catholic Pentecostals. These people claim that they have had an experience which has changed their lives and brought them into a new relationship with God. This experience is referred to as 'baptism in the Spirit' or being 'baptized in the Spirit' or the 'release of the Spirit'. The number gathered at Notre Dame that year seemed large but it represents only a small percentage of Catholics throughout the world who are a part of the Pentecostal Movement.
