Abstract

In recent years there has been a tendency for the school to play an ever increasing role in the education of youth. This is due not only to the evolution of society, but also because of the necessity to compensate for the failures of other institutions of education. For most students graduation from high school marks their final personal contact with formal education. The high school, therefore, must make every effort possible to prepare its students for life. Many educators, representing the various schools of educational philosophy, have advanced their theories on how to meet this problem. To supplement theory and the experience of adults it is advisable to turn to the person who is being educated to determine what he feels his needs are, and how well they are being met.
