Abstract
The field of computers and data processing is a rapidly changing one. The purpose of this paper was to add objectively to the body of knowledge concerning computers in one emerging area of application--the area of Information Utilities. This study of Information Utilities has three goals: 1. To analyze the data processing operation in relation to economic and organizational aspects . 2. To develop criteria for client usage of either an Information Utility or a company owned system. 3. To predict trends concerning Information Utilities of the future.
