Abstract

Wallace Stevens is known to be a poet who is a master of creating vivid imagery in his poetry. In the poem, "The House Was Quiet and the World Was Calm," he creates the picture of an individual who is experiencing full communication with the printed page. This experience has given satisfaction to the reader because the process of communication between the writer and himself is complete and meaningful. Satisfying and meaningful reading experiences, like the one described in the poem, build enthusiasm for reading.
