Abstract
I have completed two years of teaching at Carmel High School for Boys in Mundelein, Illinois. During that time I was a full time English teacher for juniors and seniors. In those two years Carmel High School has implemented certain educational changes which have caused some teachers and students to question the curriculum and the methodology in use in the various subject areas. It seemed that the English department curriculum, especially, was inadequate. The curriculum was traditional in the sense that the literature was, for the most part, unchanged since the school's beginning ten years ago. Grammar, usage, and writing were an insignificant part of the curriculum because the entire four year program centered around the study of literature.
