Abstract
"An Assessment Tool of the Mother-Infant Relationship of Infants Who Fail to Thrive" was developed for use with mothers and infants who fail to thrive. It was designed to serve as a guide for the nurse to elicit information of the mother-infant relationship. The information obtained can serve as a basis for intervention. The review of literature includes the mother-infant relationship in relation to the infant's development, failure-to-thrive as an altered state of development, and the availability of assessment tools. The review of literature is the foundation for the questions asked in the assessment tool. The assessment tool and guidelines are offered for therapeutic use.
