Abstract
Alexander Pope was a man who faced facts realistically. Realizing that he would suffer for the outpourings from his creative pen, he prophetically said, "To write well, lastingly well, immortally well ... must not one be prepared to endure the reproaches of men, want, and much fasting, nay even martyrdom in its cause?"
