Abstract

This paper deals with the concept of the implantable hearing aid. It begins with a look at the middle ear anatomy. Next, a historical review of middle ear modeling is presented. From these models an approach to aiding mild to moderate hearing impaired individuals is developed. The model of the middle ear is then used to suggest surgical modifications that could improve the speech perception of these patients.
